Voting Resources
Your last chance to vote in the Primaries is Tuesday, June 16. Polls will be open from 7 am to 8 pm.
Go to any Vote Center regardless of your address and vote by paper or electronic ballot.
You don’t need to bring any specific form of ID to vote in person, but if you are doing same-day voter registration, bring proof of D.C. residency with you (see acceptable documents for citizens here and for non-citizens here).
If you are incarcerated at the D.C. Jail, you can vote in person at the D.C. Jail during voting days.
Ranked Choice Voting
Last year, DC voters overwhelmingly supported moving to a ranked-choice voting system for city elections. The 2026 primaries in June will be the first city election that uses ranked-choice voting.
What you need to know about ranked-choice voting: You’ll be able to rank in any race with more than three candidates — and yes, you can include write-in candidates.
You can rank up to five candidates in any one race, but you don’t have to.
Don’t skip spots on your list. If you skip two in a row, like writing down a first and a fourth choice without a second and third, that fourth rank won’t count.
Only one ranking per candidate. Don’t rank a candidate first and second, for example, and don’t write two candidates on the same line.
Mail-in ballots will be sent out starting May 11, giving you time to get to know your candidate options and make your ranking choices.
